Sometimes I wonder what my life would have been like if I'd never met your dad. It's amazing to me how God used him to lead me to Christ. I am so grateful that God gave me such a wonderful husband and father for our children. Thank you for sharing our story. I hope it will be an encouragement for those who are struggling with besetting sin.

Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

II Corinthians 5:17

Your old dress article is meaningful for me. That bridesmaid's dress was the one I sewed and wore for your mom and dad's wedding. Louise sewed her dress also and Karen's dress your Grandma Derhammer probably sewed. Mom and Dad may have had reservations about their hippy marriage, but your parents and my parents had musical talent in common. Mom taught piano, played organ for the church, and played piano/director in their dance band and her brothers' and Dad's entertainment group back in the day. Dad played trumpet and they both were in the church choir. I wanted to support and be part of my sister's wedding. I took care of her quite often when she was a baby and also Karen when she was a baby (not 24/7) and enjoyed doing so. Nancy was the golden child, talented, and rebellious. I loved her anyway. We were taught at church to love one another. I am grateful for the lessons taught us at church and home. Your Great Aunt Blenn was my Sunday School teacher, my next door neighbor, a registered nurse, and spent time with me. She was a wonderful influence in my life. As a matter of fact, quite often you remind me of her and her looks (she also had dark hair). She was your Grandpa Derhammer's sister. It was a very nice wedding without going bankrupt. I very much liked our dresses and floppy hats as well as the importance of their wedding. It is a pleasure that you cherish the bridesmaid dress and the story behind it.

I always enjoy your comments that help fill in the details on family history! Thanks, again, for the treasure of the dress. I love looking at it and taking it out from time to time to wear it.

Your parents were married during a time of societal revolution. They became the ultimate revolutionaries by rejecting the chaotic norms and morals of those times and deliberately following a path forsaken by most in that era. Thank you for sharing, and beautifully written.
