What a crazy week, huh? I am not good at predicting election outcomes at all.
That might be surprising to some given that my husband successfully defeated an incumbent in his first run for South Carolina House of Representatives and then successfully won three more races after that. I’m not exactly a political novice. Nevertheless, I had no idea how this election was going to go. Local races are one thing. Statewide races are another. And nationwide races are a whole different ball of wax.
So due to my curiosity, I stayed up way too late Tuesday night watching election results roll in. A few things about this race flabbergasted me that night which I will relay. I also have an observation or two to make concerning the reactions I’ve seen.
First, the Pennsylvania Amish turned out in droves and voted for Trump. This made me chuckle, and if you read my piece last week you’d know why. It was the influence of the Amish and other Anabaptist groups that persuaded my family to abstain from voting for quite some time. You can read about that below.
So, to live through a period in history where the Amish voted at unprecedented numbers is quite a fun treat. But that’s not all. Guess who’s responsible for the Amish vote in Pennsylvania? A gay guy named Scott Presler. He has been working to register new Republican voters in Pennsylvania since 2021. His organization successfully added something like 50,000 new Republicans to the voter rolls. There aren’t any firm numbers about how many Amish voted, but Amish horse and buggies were seen at multiple rural polling locations throughout Election Day. That, in itself, is...well, I really never thought I’d see that happen. Here’s a hit piece about Presler in the Daily Beast:
The article quoted him saying this:
“We will protect your raw milk, your dairy, your school choice, your religious freedom, your ability to afford to have 10 beautiful children per family.”
That needs a little more background info which the Daily Beast didn’t include, wouldn’t you say?
I mean, what in the world could have happened in the last four years to radicalize the Amish!?
Well, it seems that an Amish dairy farmer was raided early this year for selling his raw milk “commercially to the public.” In reality, he was operating a time share. There’s a world of difference between time shares and commercial selling. I have looked into what happened and it seems a clear case of big government bullying tactics that I am unfortunately all too familiar with. Here’s a short video with more info below:
As my husband likes to say, “You can try to avoid politics, but eventually, politics will come for you.”
Politics came for the Amish. They got understandably mad. Now some of them are voting, because a gay guy with hair longer than mine took advantage of a crisis and reached out to them. You see, Obama’s right hand man, Ram Emmanuel, was right when he said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”
What a time to be alive.
And now I’m going to go drink my daily tall glass of raw milk…
Next, I was stunned to discover this week that some districts in California flipped from blue to red. Here’s a map depicting election results in California in 2020 compared to California today:
Of course, the next question is, “How did that happen?” Democrats would do themselves some serious favors by figuring that one out right away.
I know there has been a mass exodus out of California over the last four years due to worsening conditions in the big cities: more crime, skyrocketing housing prices, increasing homelessness, etc. Could it be that liberals fled the state and thus diluted their majority there? Could be. (My family in Colorado sends me frequent reports to that effect. California liberals seem to gravitate to Colorado, settle there, and set about voting in the same way that led to the problems in California they ran from.) However, conservatives have gotten out of dodge as well. At any rate, this is very curious, and I would love to hear your theories.
My last observation is that we currently live in a country where the two main political forces see the world in fundamentally different ways, and I don’t know how much longer this can continue without a split of some kind.
I watched TikTok after TikTok videos of women breaking down in tears or screaming fits over the results of this election. I read through a long Twitter comment section of women explaining why they’re terrified Trump won. It all boiled down to a few main topics.
They expressed being afraid that rapists would be emboldened since a “convicted rapist” is once again in the White House.
To which I would respond: Trump is not a convicted rapist. He has been accused of rape, but he hasn’t been convicted of rape. Bill Clinton was also accused of rape, multiple times. Were you afraid of an increase in sexual assaults when Clinton was president? I wasn’t. The penalties for rape and the laws surrounding rape haven’t changed at all as far as I’m aware since Clinton was in office. They didn’t change during Trump’s first term in office. They didn’t change during Biden’s term. It is not rational to believe they will change or that law enforcement’s response to rape will change in the next four years, regardless of whatever nonsense trolls spout on Twitter. Come back to reality.
They expressed fear of dying of ectopic pregnancy or from a miscarriage because they believed OBGYNs would flee red states because of abortion laws.
To which I would respond: A family member of mine just had an ectopic pregnancy this year. She was given life-saving care just last month by a female, outspokenly pro-life OBGYN in a state that just flipped for Trump. Women in deep red states repudiate this talking point all the time with their own experiences of excellent post-miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy care. Come back to reality.
They expressed fear that they wouldn’t be able to have birth control or get divorced if they wanted to.
To which I would respond: Darling! Trump’s been divorced multiple times! He has no interest in reforming divorce law! (Much to my chagrin, I might add. We’ll leave that for another day.) Trump has had a lot of sex with a lot of women. He should have about fifty illegitimate children by now. And he doesn’t. If he did, we’d know about it because the media hates him so much, they’d find all those kids hold them up for everyone to see. Melania only has one kid. I’m pretty sure Trump is a big fan of birth control. Come back to reality.
Many expressed the desire to get guns to protect themselves from Trump voters, men specifically.
To which I would respond: Girls! Do you know how long Trump voters, especially men, have been pestering me to get a gun and carry it on my person? Trump voters, especially men, are big fans of your gun rights. They want you to be armed and dangerous, because they think you’ll be safer that way. (They’re right.) It’s you liberal ladies who have been fighting to make it harder for everyone to get guns. The Trump boys would bend over backward to help you find just the right gun for your needs, show you how to practice trigger safety, show you how to carry concealed, help you sign up for a class. Come back to reality.
Many expressed the urgent need to get on birth control and stock up on Plan B right away because they’re convinced all abortions will be banned under Trump.
To which I would respond: Unfortunately, the pro-life cause is in worse shape now than it’s ever been, because of Trump. Trump is not pro-life. He’s spoken out against individual states abortion bans in just the last year. Do you ever listen to what he actually says? Secondly, how tragic. You’ve just admitted what people like me already believe about you—that you view abortion as birth control. May God have mercy on your eternal souls.
However, you don’t have to worry about a nation wide abortion ban for quite some time. Literally one month ago, Melania came out with her pro-choice manifesto and there was no push back from Trump whatsoever. You’re going to be fine.
You all know my problems with Trump. They are well-documented across several social media platforms including here. I have criticized him every single time he’s said or done something which I believe to be unconstitutional or just plain wrong. But this is insanity. None of this is rational.
We cannot continue much longer with two parallel versions of reality. Something’s got to give. I’d love for us all to walk back from the edge of the cliff before we have a big split. But if we must split, I pray to God it can be an amicable parting and not a civil war.
Time will tell.
That’s all for now. Until next time, folks…
P.S. Thanks to all you new subscribers out there! You guys, new and old, encouraged me a lot this month by just opening my emails and reading them. The majority of my content will always be free, but if you feel led to become a paying subscriber, I would be ever so grateful. This will help me spend more time writing as well as devote more time and resources to getting my two novels published! Thanks, and have a beautiful week.
